Tasting Notes A very fine Orpheus indeed. It is quite full bodied, very complex in flavor, and very long on the finish, with obvious tannins. But it has oodles of fruit (blackberry, cherry, plum) backed by spicy oak character. Very full bodied, but well-balanced. Likely to be at its best over the next 5-8 years. Winemaking Notes Grapes in this wine come from vines planted over half a century ago on the benchlands of Redwood Valley. We take special pride in these organically grown grapes and strive to produce a wine that is a living testament to our family’s Heritage Vineyards. Stats

Penny’s Hill Shiraz 2005
Suggested retail price $32.00 McLaren Vale Winery Background “Proudly Australian, more so McLaren Vale”. Penny’s Hill is a well established McLaren Vale brand;established by Tony & Susie Parkinson in 1988. Wines can be tasted in modern cellars which, with acclaimed restaurant and contemporary gallery, have been blended into the surroundings of the original homestead and stone outbuildings. Idle chook watching or admiring the thoroughbred black faced sheep are popular visitor pastimes. Recognised by its distinctive ‘red dot’ packaging, the Penny’s Hill range is made by winemaker and business partner Ben Riggs, who uses only estate-grown fruit from the Penny’s Hill McLaren Vale vineyards. The vineyards are managed lovingly by local viticulturists Toby Bekkers and David Paxton. Winemaking Made using only the very best French and American barrels, the wine spent approximately 22 months in new and one year old oak. Grapes for Penny’s Hill Shiraz are picked over different days. The vineyard has soils that become progressively deeper to the south of the block. Grapes show very different characters over these different soil depths. The winery takes advantage of these differences by keeping the grapes separate through the winemaking process, allowing Ben Riggs to have access to various components when it comes to blending. Analytical Grapes: 100% Shiraz Yields: 2.5-3 tons/acre Aging: 20 months in new and 1-year old, French and American oak. Vintage: After a reasonably wet winter across the region the vines burst well with good early shoot growth. A milder than usual summer with very few extreme temperatures, resulted in an excellent, even ripening period. Alc/Vol: 15% Press 95 Pts. “...Excellent balance and composition; black fruits, integrated oak and good length; has elegance...” James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion Oct. ‘06
WS 89 pts Dark and juicy, with coffee notes adding interest to the black cherry and pepper flavors, finishing with refined tannins. Drink now through 2012.
Viticulture Due to slightly higher elevation, the Penny’s Hill Shiraz enjoys a climate a cooler than the rest of McLaren Vale’s vineyards. The 15-year old vines are narrowly planted on relatively infertile soils. The rows are planted east west; permitting greater exposure to the grape bunches. 2002 is the eighth vintage of Shiraz from this 18-acre which, planted in 1991, represents the fi rst plantings by Penny’s Hill proprietors, Susie and Tony Parkinson. Narrow rows and high density plantings saw a move away from traditional McLaren Vale
vineyard set-up, and has contributed to the quality of the Shiraz we get off the site, year in and year out.

| Andrew Will Annie Camarda Syrah 04
Winery: Andrew Will
Andrew Will Annie Camarda Syrah 04 -
was $59.95!
Parker 90 points: "Chris Camarda's efforts with Syrah deserve serious attention. The Annie Camarda Syrah is blended of fruit from the Chamoux and Ciel du Cheval Vineyards, two of eastern Washington's finest.
The 2004 Syrah Annie Camarda is exceptionally fragrant, with aromas of bacon, blueberry, and violets jumping from the glass. On the palate, ample sweet fruit asserts itself leading to a long, pure finish. Although it can be enjoyed now, 2-3 years in the cellar should lead to greater aromatic complexity and a smoother texture."
